Restaurant & Catering SA Responsible Service of Alcohol Policy

The restaurant and catering industry encourages and supports the safe provision of alcohol through all it's venues. It encourages management strategies that enhance patron safety by providing a setting that promotes the responsible consumption of alcohol.

The restauraurant & catering industry supports that philosophy by use of the following strategies:

  • Develop food and beverage packages that encourage people to eat when drinking
  • Avoid 'all you can drink' and heavily discounted drink specials, as these can result in problem drinking behaviour
  • Give patrons access to a phone to call a taxi or someone to pick them up
  • Serve drinks in standard or recognisable sizes
  • Ensure that drinking water is freely available
  • Request proof of age if there is a risk of serving minors
  • Training of staff in responsible service requirements and how to refuse service to intoxicated patrons
  • Price low alcohol and soft drinks attractively to encourage their purchase
  • Provide good lighting outside the premises
